Posted 2/10/10 Eastern NY Chapter of ABCD Sponsors Future City Competition 2010 Students from 17 local middle schools spent the last several months brainstorming ideas for cities of the future and looking around the house from the attic to the basement for disposable items from which to make models of their dreamscapes. All that work was laid out Saturday, January 16, 2010 on table tops at Hudson Valley Community College for the Future City Competition for local seventh and eighth graders sponsored by the Capital District Future City Competition Committee. It's one of 38 regional competitions across the country held as part of the National Engineers Week Future City Competition. The topic of this year's competition is to design affordable green living cities for people who have lost their homes due to a disaster or financial emergency. The Eastern NY Chapter of ABCD sponsored a specialty award titled “Best Design and Construction of a Bridge in a Future City.” The winning school was Draper Middle School and their City name was Mohonville. Photographs of the winning future city model can be viewed in the "Photographs" section of this website. It is a very practical course that can be used for professional development hours needed to maintain PE licensure, to pursue UB’s new Masters Degree in Bridge & Infrastructure Engineering or as an elective for the UB’s Professional Certificate in Bridge & Infrastructure Engineering.
